vivid ruby-red in color featuring intense blackcurrant, cherry pit and licorice aromas complemented by hints of cola and black pepper. Sharply focused dark berry flavors are lifted by a jolt of smoky minerality and a repeating peppery note. With some air the wine picks up a floral quality that carries through a long, fruit-driven finish.
Sousón is a dark-skinned grape variety primarily used to create aromatic young wines with high acidity. It buds late and matures slowly, which often leads to its cultivation in warmer regions or south-facing vineyards to optimize warmth. This grape is recognized for its excellent structure and deep color. In terms of aromas, it offers prominent notes of dark fruits like blackberries and blackcurrants. While it has traditionally been used in blends, newer Galician producers like Coto de Gomariz are experimenting with single varietal wines made exclusively from Sousón and the results are spectacular.
